The King of Crops and Ultimate Staple of West African Cuisine
"Nigerian yams aren’t just a staple—they’re a legacy. From pounded yam to roasted slices, each variety tells a story of tradition, resilience, and unmatched flavor."
There are yams, and then there are Nigerian Yams—renowned for their superior taste, texture, and versatility. Nigeria is the largest producer of yams in the world, offering the widest range of varieties, with a wide range of cooking uses. Yams are one of the ingredients we are most excited about. We have established a farm in the Dominican Republic where we grow West African produce, including a variety of Nigerian yams, closer to our culinary explorers in the US.
We carry several varieties of Nigerian yams, including Ogoja, Favorite, Mekakusa, Boss, and Asiedu—each celebrated for its unique flavor and cooking qualities. Whether pounded into smooth, stretchy fufu or roasted to caramelized perfection, Nigerian yams are a culinary treasure, regional staple and an excellent alternative to potatoes.
