Our Founder

Indeegenus is an ode to my grandmothers - Affiong and Affiong - and all the mothers and grandmothers that have nourished generations with indigenous ingredients for centuries.

Greetings, I’m Affiong, the founder of Indeegenus. British by birth, American by choice, and Nigerian by heritage, I have a passion for food, flavor, and culinary exploration. Along with our passionate and diverse team, I'm on a mission to rediscover the ingredients that my Nigerian ancestors thrived on, and share them with fellow food enthusiasts everywhere.

As the child of British immigrants and as a U.S. immigrant myself, traditional dishes have been key to connecting to my heritage. Growing up in London, the first Nigerian dish I remember my mother cook was edikang ikong soup, a delicacy of our Ibibio tribe from Southeastern, Nigeria. My memory of the aromas from our kitchen, and my mother's stories about my grandmothers and their cooking have inspired my journey to explore and connect others to West Africa's culinary treasures.
